Grand Canyon From The Top - 2016

February 28, 2016

Today we headed out around 945AM from Williams to the Grand Canyon.   Our first stop was to find out information on a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon.   Judy & Rose were very interested, Mary was not too sure and Mom was a definite “no” (feet on the ground).   We thought we would stop at the Grand Canyon Airport; however, I guess the first place we stopped was not the Grand Canyon Airport, but a private airport owned by a wealthy man and he allowed other small planes to fly in there and they also had rental cars available to them.  In the building he had pristine antique cars (Studebaker ’63, antique motorcycles, Chevrolet truck (not sure of the year).   In the next building, he had antique planes, but we didn’t get to see them.   It was impressive – glad we stopped there by accident.

On to find the real Grand Canyon Airport!  Yes, we did find it and yes, we did sign up for a 30 minute helicopter ride through Papillon Helicopters.  At 1200PM, we were up in the air and heading for the Grand Canyon.  It was amazing!  Bucket List –check!

Back on the ground, we headed into Grand Canyon National Park to view the park from the South Rim.
We spent the remainder of the day driving through the park and doing the pull-outs/overlooks.  We snapped numerous pictures and enjoyed the many viewpoints along the way.  We left the park around 5PM and headed back to Williams for dinner and an overnight.

Tomorrow, we will head to Sedona, Jerome and then on to Phoenix.
