Africa - Victoria Falls

Day Eight

In the morning, we all packed our things and headed out to our flight to Kasane Airport (located in Botswana).   This airport is quite small (there is much building going on) and located about 1 hour from Victoria Falls.   We flew here since it is not as congested and also so that we could stop to see the Imbabala Zambezi Safari Lodge located on the Zambezi River.   We did a tour of the lodge and were able to have lunch there as well.
This was our first real hot and sunny day of the trip.

Then we were able to take in a Zambezi River Cruise (similar to a large houseboat) and cruised down the river watching the hippopotamus (8)  and  a large elephant that put on a show for us.  We were able to get quite a beautiful sunset and the temperature on the water was quite nice with a cool breeze.

We then headed off to Victoria Falls Lodge for our evening accommodations and dinner.

Day Nine

Another full day ahead of us and the highlight of course being able to see Victoria Falls (one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World).   Victoria Falls was spectacular and we are glad it was part of our itinerary we were able to take many pictures from the various viewpoints.   As we walked, we were able to feel the mist of the water from the falls.  I guess in April/May, you get soaking wet because the water is flowing so much and so fast.

We were able to stop and shop at a local market for various souvenirs and then we continued on for a tour of the Elephant Camp.    The Elephant Camp is a luxury tent camp that you just can’t imagine.  You would never think you could have such luxury in a tent.  At the lodge, we were able to meet/pet Sylvester their domesticated Cheetah.

I believe he was an abandoned cub, so he has never truly been in the wild on his own.
They do use him for education purposes.  What a beautiful animal.  On their property they have an Elephant Encounter (18 elephants) that you can meet, touch them, feed them and even ride them.   We were able to do all, but ride them.  It was a great experience.

Not done yet, our evening dinner was at the BOMA – Place of Eating, where we were able to have an African Experience (dancing, singing, etc.) and enjoy the Zimbabwe cuisine.

Wow!   Finally in our room at 900PM – what a full day of events!
