August 6, Thursday
1045AM
We were picked up at Bozeman airport by
our taxi (Joe & Joanne in their 32
ft Hurricane motorhome). Today we will
travel 7 hours to reach our destination
of East Glacier. Joanne had
secured a pull-thru sight at Y Lazy RV park.
Our RV park was within walking distance
of town and we checked out the shops and checked-in for our car rental for the
next day. We also walked over to the
East Glacier Park Lodge and the Amtrak station.
For dinner, Joanne/Joe provided us with a steak/chicken dinner.

August 7, Friday
900AM We
picked up our Expedition car rental and departed for our day adventure heading
up into Canada. We took Hwy 49 to Two
Medicine and looked around the area. We
continued to Hwy 89 to St. Mary Visitor Center and walked through the St.
Mary’s Lodge. This is where “The Going
to the Sun Road” starts. The Going to
the Sun Road was closed due to forest fire (nearly 3,900 acres) . We continued on Hwy 89 to Babb and then onto
Manny Glacier (Manny Glacier Lodge) and onto Hwy 17 (Chief Mountain
International Hwy) which brought us into Canada (Waterton Park). We stopped at the Prince of Wales Hotel that
overlooked the lake and the town of Waterton Park. The town looked like a summer retreat and
was very quaint and located right on
Waterton Lake. We checked out the
town shops and enjoyed an ice cream cone before returning to the USA. We arrived back at the motorhome around 630PM
and turned in our car rental. We enjoyed
some soup and leftovers for dinner. Jim
& Joe stopped to pick up a couple slices of Huckleberry pie. The berries were similar to blue berries, but
a little more tart. It was good, but not
necessary to run out and get more…..

1000AM Today
we headed out on our motorcycle adventure.
Carrie hooked us up with a bike so that we could join Joe & Joanne
for some riding on our vacation. We took
off for St. Mary’s Visitor Center with plans to go to Logan Pass. Upon our arrival at St. Mary’s we learned
that the Going to the Sun Road was open and that we could travel from St.
Mary’s through Logan Pass (6,646 ft. – The Continental Divide) and on to West
Glacier.
The
pass is 50 miles across and we were able to see some of the burn area, glaciers
and beautiful scenery. We stopped at
McDonald Lake and had pizza at Joe’s Jammers and also check out the lodge and
lake in the area. We travelled 150
miles today and we arrived back at East Glacier at 630PM. We enjoyed some wine, cheese and crackers and
called it a day!
800AM Departed
Glacier National Park and headed south for Yellowstone National Park.

It was a day of driving in the motorhome with an anticipated arrival in Yellowstone in the late afternoon (8.5 hours) at 430PM. Joanne had reservations at the Grizzly RV Park located right in W. Yellowstone for 3 nights. We arrived at W. Yellowstone around 430PM and had time to walk around the beautiful park and admire all of the fancy rigs. We had a turkey dinner and then headed into town to check out the sights. Jim and Joe indulged in an ice cream cone from the City Creamery.
